A strategic audience practice
for organizations that need to stay ahead of the next generation.
ThenForward helps organizations read the next generation as it changes, translate that reading into better decisions, and build the audience relationships that keep paying dividends after the decisions are made. It is a standing capability, not a project, built for the leaders who have to keep making calls long after the last research deck is filed away.
Why the practice exists
We kept seeing the same problem from the inside of the work.
For years we built products, communities, newsletters, creator ecosystems, partnerships, and growth systems for younger audiences. We were inside the cohort, not observing it from a distance, and we watched what actually changed behavior versus what only trended.
While doing that work we noticed the same pattern across every organization we talked to. They understood the next generation in snapshots. Every quarter they commissioned another report, and by the time it landed the audience had already moved. The decisions the organization needed to make kept arriving faster than the research that was supposed to inform them.
The gap was never a shortage of information. It was the absence of a standing capability to interpret it. Organizations did not need another report. They needed a practice that would keep reading the audience, keep sharpening the thesis, and keep translating both into decisions leadership could act on.
ThenForward was created to become that capability.
Q.What does loyalty look like for the 19–24 cohort right now?
Not the loyalty program. The behaviour. Repeat purchase isn't the metric, repeat advocacy is. A buyer who DMs the brand to one friend is worth ~14 of the silent repeat-buyer.
Q.Where does the brand show up first?
Mostly in conversation, not in feeds. Three of five buyers in the last cohort heard the brand named in a voice memo before they saw it on a screen.

What we believe
Six ideas that shape every engagement.
- 01
Interpretation over information
Executives are drowning in data and starved of meaning. The value is in the reading, not the reporting.
- 02
Judgment over noise
A behavior that survives ninety days of scrutiny is worth a recommendation. Most of what trends is weather.
- 03
Continuity over campaigns
The audience does not stop evolving on a quarterly schedule. The capability that tracks it cannot either.
- 04
Systems over one-off projects
A report ages the day it lands. A standing capability compounds. We build the second, not the first.
- 05
Customization over templates
Every business meets its audience on different terms. The model is built for the organization, not borrowed from another.
- 06
Owned audiences over rented attention
The most durable advantage is a direct line to the audience you want to keep. Platforms come and go on top of it.
How the practice works
We are here to develop judgment leadership can rely on, not to catalogue information.
Every engagement begins by learning the organization from the inside. Nothing is templated. Nothing is syndicated. The first weeks are spent understanding the business well enough to develop an independent point of view on it, and that point of view becomes a customized audience model that everything downstream is built on.

Output
A customized audience model for the organization. It becomes the foundation for everything that follows, and it evolves as the audience does.
Built specifically
The model is written for one organization, in the language its leadership uses.
Kept current
As the audience evolves the model updates. The capability tracks change instead of dating alongside it.
Applied continuously
The same model informs interpretation, decisions, editorial, and the owned relationships built on top of it.
The thesis
The next generation does not evolve in quarterly increments.
Organizations that depend on them cannot afford to understand them that way.
The people behind the practice
Built by operators who have shipped the work, not studied it.
The people behind ThenForward have spent years operating inside consumer businesses, products, owned audiences, newsletters, creator ecosystems, partnerships, and growth systems for younger generations. Every recommendation the practice makes is grounded in that experience, not borrowed from a consulting playbook.
We are based in New York, work with organizations everywhere, and take on a deliberately limited number of engagements at a time so the reading stays sharp and the relationships stay real.
